A medication abortion is defined as a success if a complete termination of pregnancy without the need for an aspiration or surgical intervention occurs.

A medication abortion is defined as a failure if an aspiration or surgical procedure is performed or if the pregnancy is ongoing. An aspiration or surgical procedure may be performed as a results of a continued pregnancy, an incomplete abortion, heavy bleeding or other complications, the provider's judgment, or the woman's request.
